As tickets go on sale for the Royal Marines spectacular Beating Retreat performance in May, two of the Royal Marines Bands members are currently flying the flag for great Britain as they perform around the Globe. The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Scotland are currently half way through a tour of the United States with their colleagues from the Guards Band. The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Portsmouth are currently taking part in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo ‘on tour’. After playing to capacity crowds in Australia they are now performing the Tattoo for the people of New Zealand.
Once they return home rehearsals will begin in earnest for both the Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall in April and of course the big event of the summer, ‘Royal Marines Beating Retreat’ on Horse Guards Parade, London.
The Massed Bands of the Royal Marines will perform their world-renowned Beating Retreat on London's Horse Guards Parade in celebration of the birthday of their Captain General, His Royal Highness Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh on 25 and 26 May at 6.15pm.
Only performed every two years, this magnificent pageant of military music, precision drill and colour dates back to the 16th century and is regarded as a piece of living history. During the event as well as the ceremony of Beating Retreat you will also witness the traditional Naval Ceremonial Sunset which once witnessed on the hallowed ground of Horse Guards Parade are something that will never be forgotten. New for 2016 will be a drill display given by 100 Royal Marines Commandos, on of the world’s elite fighting forces. 200 of the world’s finest military musicians will be performing with all 5 Royal Marines Bands on parade.
All proceeds from this popular event will go to Naval Service Charities.
